Resume,
The purpose of the study was to review the literature on weight control in children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes mellitus. We analyzed literature data over the past 20 years. At the same time, trail studies, RCTs, protocols, etc. were studied. According to a review of the literature, the prevalence of obesity in patients with T1DM increased at a faster rate than in the general population. Although intensive insulin therapy, physical inactivity, and the development of double diabetes explain some of the mechanisms of weight gain in patients with T1DM, little has been studied about effective weight control interventions in this population that has long been considered thin. Dietary intervention, increasing physical activity and exercise, adjusting insulin therapy, adding other diabetes medications that have a positive effect on body weight, or adding anti-obesity medications are suggested. Conclusions: 1. The prevalence of obesity in patients with T1DM increased at a faster rate than in the general population. 2. For grade 3 obesity in patients with T1DM, it is recommended to consult a psychologist to rule out eating disorders.
Key words: children and adolescents, type 1 diabetes mellitus, trail studies, weight control, dietary intervention.
