Resume
Herbal medicine is one of the oldest forms of medicine. World Health Organization (WHO) research and expert opinions indicate a growing demand for alternative forms of treatment, including herbal medicines. The article provides current information about the use of medicinal plants in modern times, the frequency and reasons for the use of medicinal plants in world practice. An overview of WHO documents on the quality assessment, collection, preparation and use of herbal materials, as well as the main provisions of the WHO strategy for traditional medicine for 2014-2023 are presented. There is also information about the properties of the constituents of medicinal plants, as well as dosage forms and dosages of herbal medicines.
