Resume

Fascioliasis is a parasitic disease affecting the liver and bile ducts, belonging to the group of trematodoses. It occurs in humans and animals and is transmitted through the enteral route. The disease can manifest in acute and/or predominantly chronic forms. This article analyzes the challenges of diagnosing fascioliasis. In the acute stage of the disease, it is impossible to detect parasite eggs in stool samples because the parasite does not lay eggs. In the chronic stage, finding parasite eggs in stool samples or through microscopy of duodenal fluid is considered the "gold standard" for diagnosis. In the serological diagnosis of the disease, various authors express conflicting opinions. Visual diagnostic methods are not always effective.

Keywords: fascioliasis, Fasciola hepatica, diagnosis, ELISA, coproscopy.
