Resume

Aldosterone is a steroid hormone, and its prolonged elevation in concentration affects blood pressure, leads to complications in vascular, heart, and kidney diseases, and causes metabolic changes. The effects of this hormone on various target organs can be briefly summarized as follows. It activates fibroblasts in the heart, stimulates collagen synthesis, and induces myocardial interstitial fibrosis. In the distal tubules of the kidneys, it enhances sodium and water reabsorption, increases potassium and magnesium excretion, stimulates fibroblasts, increasing collagen synthesis, and causes mesangial fibrosis. It increases circulating blood volume and disrupts electrolyte balance. Furthermore, it affects blood vessels by weakening the production of vasodilators, increasing collagen synthesis, causing endothelial proliferation and dysfunction, leading to perivascular fibrosis and thrombus formation.

Keywords: aldosterone, fibrosis, angiotensin II, renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system.
