Resume

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common rhythm disorder and has become one of the important problems of cardiology today. This rhythm disorder leads to heart failure, reduced quality of life, dementia and most importantly stroke in patients. Isolation of the pulmonary veins can be considered as the best alternative treatment that can compete with the treatment of the disease by means of antiarrhythmic drugs. And even for a certain class of patients, it can be called a radical method of eliminating arrhythmia. Nevertheless, relapses are observed after this practice. Therefore, it is an important task to determine the specific characteristics of patients who have relapsed after treatment, which allows to select the most suitable group of patients for pulmonary vein isolation. Therefore, in this article, we aimed to conduct a literature review in order to study the initial prognostic signs of relapses, and it was determined that there are structural heart diseases, AF duration, large left atria diameter, low ejection fraction, hypertension, metabolic syndrome, and chronic kidney disease are the most important predictors of recurrence after catheter ablation.

Key words: atrial fibrillation, heart failure, stroke, antiarrhythmic drugs, isolation of pulmonary veins, recurrence, predictors
