Resume

Dysfunctions of maternal immune adaptations are associated with a number of pregnancy pathologies, including preterm birth (PTB). There is now ample evidence from mouse models and human studies that PTB results from impaired fetal-maternal tolerance ndexcessive premature inflammation. In this case, the balance between pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines is crucial for fetal implantation, placental preparation and pregnancy outcome. An imbalance between proinflammatory and antiinflammatory cytokines, such as overexpression of proinflammatory cytokines and underexpression of antiinflammatory cytokines, or vice versa, may initiate immune dysfunction. Both conditions may contribute to preterm labor. Cytokines are major immune regulators during pregnancy, mediating gametogenesis, uterine receptivity, implantation reactions, embryogenesis and fetal development and the onset of labor, causing inflammatory processes or inducing immune tolerance. Aberrant expression of proinflammatory cytokines during pregnancy contributes to preterm birth, preeclampsia, and gestational diabetes mellitus. In our study, 117 pregnant women were examined, including 65 with threatened premature birth, 52 with premature birth, and 106 pregnant women with a physiological course of pregnancy

Key words: premature birth, genetic markers, allele, genotype, mutant allele, homozygote, heterozygote, polymorphism of the IL-1β (T31C), TNF-α (G308A) and IL-10 (G1082A) genes
