Resume
Chronic eczema of the hands (CEC) is one of the most common inflammatory skin diseases, often having an occupational nature. The disease is characterized by a long, recurrent course, marked itching, dryness, cracks and lichenification of the skin of the hands, which significantly reduces the quality of life of patients and their ability to work. Contact with irritants, repeated exposure to allergens and impaired skin barrier function play a leading role in the pathogenesis of CEC. The aim of the present study was to investigate the influence of occupational factors and contact allergens on the development of chronic hand eczema in adult patients. Ninety-two patients working in different industries with potential dermatologic risk were examined. Patch testing with the main allergens, anamnesis analysis, clinical evaluation and quality of life scale questionnaire were performed. It was found that sensitization to nickel, chromates, rubber components, preservatives and surfactants was detected in 68.5% of patients. The highest risk of developing CEC was noted in medical workers, workers in the food and construction industries. The obtained data emphasize the importance of a systematic approach to the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of chronic hand eczema, taking into account occupational and allergological factors
