Resume

Focal alopecia areata (FA) in adolescents is a common form of non-purulent alopecia, which is autoimmune in nature and is often accompanied by severe psychoemotional distress. Adolescence is a period of active social and personal adaptation, when appearance is of paramount importance. Hair loss can cause anxiety and depressive states, as well as reduce self-esteem, which, in turn, may be a factor that aggravates the course of the disease. The aim of the present study was to determine the nature and degree of influence of psychoemotional factors on the development and recurrence of focal alopecia areata in adolescents. The study included 78 adolescents with clinically confirmed diagnosis of OA who underwent a comprehensive clinical and psychological evaluation. In most cases (75.6%) hair loss was preceded by significant stressful events: parental divorce, school conflicts, and exam tension. High level of personal anxiety was registered in 59% of patients, depressive symptoms - in 28%. A positive correlation between the level of stress and the severity of the disease was established. The results confirm the important role of psychoemotional factors in the pathogenesis of OA in adolescents and emphasize the need to include psychological support and family therapy in the complex of treatment and diagnostic measures
