Objective. To assess the population characteristics of metabolic syndrome (MS) components among urban-dwelling men of the main working-age population, with consideration of age-related differences. Materials and Methods. A cross-sectional epidemiological study was conducted on a representative sample of the male population, comprising 800 participants, with 200 individuals in each of the following age groups: 25–34, 35–44, 45–54, and 55–64 years. All participants were registered at family polyclinics in the city of Bukhara. The diagnosis of metabolic syndrome was based on the criteria established by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF, 2005). Results. The distribution of population-based indicators for systolic blood pressure (SBP) and waist circumference (WC) in the study sample demonstrated a rightward shift within the range of a normal distribution. This pattern accounted for the high prevalence of arterial hypertension (AH) and abdominal obesity (AO) among men of the main working-age group. Age-standardized prevalence rates were 59.8% for AH and 42.6% for AO. A statistically significant positive association was observed between age and SBP levels in men of the working-age group, as well as between age range and levels of diastolic blood pressure (DBP) and WC across the entire age spectrum studied. Conclusion. The findings indicate a high prevalence of MS components among urban males of working age. This underscores the need for the development and implementation of scientifically grounded, context-specific programs for the primary and secondary prevention of metabolic disorders and associated cardiovascular diseases.
