Resume
The article examines the contribution of the ancient Indian physician Sushruta, the author of the classic work "Sushruta Samhita", to the development of surgery and medicine. Particular attention is paid to historical aspects, systematization of surgical methods, instruments and their influence on the subsequent development of world medical practice. The significance of Sushruta's works in the development of anatomy, plastic surgery, ophthalmology and principles of asepsis is analyzed.
