Key biological contributors—including neurotransmitter imbalance, neuroendocrine dysregulation, neuroinflammation, genetic vulnerability, and impaired neuroplasticity—are discussed. Clinical subtypes such as unipolar depression, melancholic depression, atypical depression, psychotic and somatic forms are reviewed.
